Portugal’s sunny, seafaring spirit lives among the cities and coastal villages that once served as home to some of the greatest explorers the world has ever known. Go Ahead Groups Tour Consultant Clarissa P. recently explored these shores herself on our Portugal: Porto, Lisbon & the Algarve tour. Here, she shares her favorite highlights of the trip.
“The Algarve region is home to some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches. The views are simply breathtaking. From the cliffs, you can see so far and the water is so clear and blue.”

“I learned an incredible amount of history on this trip. I especially loved the optional excursion to Sintra, where the streets are lined with beautiful mansions and the royal palace has stood since the Middle Ages.”
“Portuguese food features a lot of fresh produce and seafood, especially the dried and salted cod called bacalhau. We learned so much at the Port wine tasting—and who doesn’t enjoy sampling wine all day?”

“All of the buildings were so colorful. Many are covered in intricately painted ceramic tiles. We visited a small shop to learn about the process and found out that each tile takes an hour to paint by hand.”

“This tour starts in the city of Porto and ends in Lisbon, but we traveled through so many small villages in between. I felt like we really got to know local culture and history on those small cobblestone streets.”
