few ?s before departure
Reply

We are booked on the Brussels-Amsterdam-Luxembourg tour for 3-20-10 and I know its still more than a month out but I have a few questions. This is our first time traveling anywhere with a tour company so sorry in advance if these are obvious questions. When do we receive our final travel papers/tickets? When will we get our flight seating assignments or is that something we need to contact the airlines directly for? Will we be picked up at the airport when we land and at the end of the trip do they provide a ride back to the airport or are we responsible for this transportation? And finally can anyone give us a good idea of how much extra money we should have set aside for this trip? This tour is a 10day tour with only 3 dinners provided. Thanks again for the help!

I'm happy to answer your questions!  I work for Go Ahead Tours and our goal is to ensure you have the best possible experience while on tour, which is why we take care of the details!

You can expect to receive your final documents, including your final flight itinerary and hotel information, approximately 10 - 14 days prior to your departure.  In the meantime you can view your flight reservations and hotel details through your online account.  We recommend that you contact the airline within 30 days of your departure to make specific seat requests.

Upon your arrival in Amsterdam you will be met by a Go Ahead Tours representative after you have collected your luggage and cleared customs.  We suggest that you wear your name tag and utilize the luggage tags that will be included in your final mailing to make it easier for your Tour Director to recognize you.  At the end of your tour you will be escorted back to the airport for your return flight to the United States.

It’s always a good idea to carry some cash with you, but you'll also want to withdraw euros at an ATM machine once you arrive in Amsterdam.  Travelers’ checks are no longer widely accepted and you will be charged a higher commission fee to exchange them into euros.  Major credits cards will be accepted at most stores and restaurants.  With regards to additional money for food, it certainly depends on what type of dining experience you are looking for, but a good rule or thumb is $10-$15 dollars for lunch and $25 - $40 dinner per person.  Of course, you can find less expensive options for meals and your Tour Director is a great resource for dining recommendations.

We're excited to welcome you on your first Go Ahead Tour!  If you have any further questions prior to your departure, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department at 800-597-0350, Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm EST.

Happy travels,

Go Ahead Tours

It is helpful to have a bunch of $1 US bills to use as tips for the city tour guides, instead of hoping that you have the right amount of Euros to give as a tip.  I always fill my tip envelopes before I ever leave home so that I don't have to worry about it at the end of the trip.  Have some Euros on you before you even leave the states, you can check with your bank.  The airport exchanges are expensive and your tour director is very helpful as to where to get the best deals.  Remember to check with your bank as to fees for using an ATM in Europe.  Make sure to let your charge card banks know 2 days before you leave that you will be travling in Europe, so that your card is not denied when buying somethng.  Make sure to make copies of your passport, but do not carry them with your passport.   When packing, if traveling with someone else, split your stuff into the two suitcases so that if one suitcase doesn't make it, you'll still have clothes in the other.  I have learned to carry an extra set of clothes with me in my carry on,  just in case.  I have been to Amsterdam with GoAhead and the breakfast buffets are great and getting around that city is easy.  Enjoy yourselves and don't forget to go thru the "Red Light District".  It is an experience in itself and was the high light of my 79 year old mothers trip.
