Walking the Amalfi Coast
Reply

Hi there,

Has anyone been on this tour? How are the walks?  Are they very strenuous?

When is the best time to go? What are the highlights of this tour?

Are there any optional excursions or anything we should not miss?

Thanks!

I took this tour in early November, 2007 and had an incredible experience. I imagine it would be beautiful no matter when you go, but November was a great time to be there. Since it was the off season, there were fewer crowds, but restaurants and shops were still open. The weather ranged from the mid sixties to low seventies, which was a perfect temperature when you're walking a few miles each day!

As long as you're accustomed to walking for a few hours at a time, and prepared for some hilly, uneven terrain, you won't have a problem with the walks. By far the most strenuous walk was the "Path of the Gods", but this is offered as an optional tour, so you can decide whether or not you're up for the challenge.

The Capri optional is not to be missed! The guide was great, and you really get a great overview of the island. Breathtaking scenery as well!

I was on this tour in late September.  This was not a good time to be there as it was quite crowded and bumper to bumper traffic.  Friends who were there in October and November had wonderful experiences.  It was a matter of timing.

The walks are all relative to your hiking experience.  The optional Path of the Gods is a spectacular hike.  I recommend that you wear hiking boots and carry a hiking stick. The other walks were quite easy...but, good footwear is important.

Mount Vesuvius was included in the itinerary.  What a thrill to visit this site.  Many of my group went back there on their free day.

Happy to answer any questions about this tour.  kdidier@suchmail.com

Hi - I'm going on this tour in late September!  Did you go to Ischia?  Am debating whether or not to go on that optional excursion.   Thanks.

I went on this tour in late September 2006. The weather was perfect except for the day we were scheduled to do the Path of the Gods walk. It was raining heavily, and we were able to do only one quarter of the walk. Walking the Amalfi Coast was a fanatastic tour. I did go to Ischia  and enjoyed seeing the island. I did wish there was a little more free time, but I did choose to take just about all of the optional tours. Pompeii was an unbelievable experience, and a place I had always wanted to visit.  My husband and I extended our trip after the tour ended so we were able to return to Pompeii and spend more time there. I know you will enjoy Walking the Amalfi Coast. Last year I did Walking through Tuscany with my daughter and that was another fabulous tour. In late September 2008 we are taking the  Walking Through Provence tour.
