The Greek Islands
Reply

Hi there,

Has anyone been on this tour? When is the best time to go? What are the highlights of this tour?

We're trying to decide between this and the Fables of Ancient Greece tour.  What are the differences?

Are there any optional excursions or anything we should not miss?

Thanks!

Hi,

i travel to Greece quite often on my own and also have with two EF student tours, a related company to Goahead.   I prefer spring or fall because of weather and less tourists.

i went on the Go Ahead Greek Island trip in Oct. 2007 and really enjoyed it!!!!

In fact, i just returned May 30, 2008 from Santorini (stayed with friends in their caldera edge hotel) and Mykonos where I booked the Petinos, and then theTitania Hotel in Athens, both Go ahead hotels I had experienced last fall on the Goahead tour!  The Petinos and Titania were great!

On our Greek Island Tour our Crete hotel was very nice but I heard it was being remodeled and another nicer one had been found, Atlantis? The worst hotel of the trip was in Istanbul but the experiences in Istanbul were fabulous and exotic.  The Whirling Dervishes in the original Orient Express Train Station!  Wow!  The Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Spice market, the Bosphorus Strait !  Wow!  it is quite the exotic place...fascinating place.  you must go!

I would recommend the Greek Island tour since you spend more quality time out in the islands and still get to see Delphi, Cape Sounion, Athens, and Delos (really beautiful),Santorini, (drop dead georgous ), Mykonos (really nice hotel on great beach with great food), Crete, Palace of Knossos, Hanai, and Rethymnon(and supossedly even nicer hotel, and i liked ours),

I did not go on the Fables of Ancient Greece Tour, but on a similar one with students and EF,  That itinerary travels to wonderful historical spots like Delphi, Olympia, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nauplion, Cape Sounion, and Athens.  (I haven't made it to Meteora or Corfu yet either but will someday!)  My similar tour was good but entailed a lot of time on the bus.  And the cruise was brief (several hours) stops on Mykonos, Rhodes, Patmos, and over to Kusadasi and Ephesus. No Santorini or Crete or Istanbul at all., and that would be a shame.  Fables is a good trip to see that part of Greece and i probably will go back but i preferred the time spent on the beautiful Greek islands. hope this helped.
